Classroom Workshop Facilitators

Passion Impact is currently hiring up to four work-study students from Portland State University and Portland Community College.

Do you want to create and facilitate workshops that engage AVID students in self-awareness, social justice, and post-high school pathways content?

The Classroom Workshop Facilitator (CWF) is responsible for creating and facilitating Classroom Workshops with specific AVID classes at Franklin (FHS) and McDaniel High Schools (MHS). Working as a team with either another CWF or MHS’ High School Program Coordinator, you will work to produce monthly workshops as classes build toward a project at the end of the year. All CWFs will be trained to understand the existing relationships with AVID teachers and students that are already held by program staff as well as the structure of AVID overall. In preparing for Classroom Workshops, CWFs will be encouraged to utilize their access to research databases, magazine subscriptions, the library and other pertinent outlets that will help in crafting immersive workshops for AVID students respective to the grades with which they will be working. CWFs are expected to create any Classroom Workshops that are not currently made and will need to report for all assigned workshops at the high schools. The College Program Coordinator will be the supervisor for the CWFs and meet with the group weekly to discuss teaching philosophies, improvement to workshops, and practicing upcoming workshops. In addition, the CWFs are encouraged to join DEI Committee meetings and support in DEI projects as needed to continue sharpening their lens as they add content from their discussions. CWFs will also attend and work closely with other College Program students who will be researching ongoing civic engagement opportunities as well as supporting students individually. In addition to receiving guidance and support from the College Program Coordinator, CWFs will also be supported by the High School Program Director and participate in bi-weekly/monthly check-ins.
