Jordy’s Summer Internship Experience

The Passion Impact internship means a lot more to me than filler on a college application, it means a safe and welcoming community where I can truly, fearlessly, be myself.

Okay let me not lie, I first joined Passion Impact because I thought it would look good on a college app. In my defense, a lot has changed since I first applied for the six week internship that has greatly changed the way I view the world. Initially, I got an email from someone at my school, with a link to apply to a PAID summer internship. I looked deeper into what passion impact really was, a.k.a I stalked the instagram account, and I realized it was linked to the club that some people at my school were a part of. Needless to say I was intrigued. I had nothing to do all summer, so I decided to apply, the worst that could happen was I didn’t get in, and stayed home all summer. Thankfully, I did get in, and got to work with a bunch of wonderful people.

From watching ted talks, to reading articles, to our weekly monday meetings, I have learned the importance of teamwork and responsibility, as well as a whole lot of information on colleges, job interviews, and even finances. I have definitely noticed some growth in the way I think, post-internship. Themes of identity, intersectionality, and imposter syndrome are still fresh in my mind. My favorite part was definitely getting to know my fellow FHS interns better. These are people that I’ve gone to school with for many years, (some since elementary school, shoutout Fisher West), but have never actually connected with in a meaningful way. Through the check-ins at the beginning of our meetings, and the internship vlogging, I can say I know a little more about these people than I did a month and a half ago, and I’m grateful for that. The Passion Impact internship means a lot more to me than filler on a college application, it means a safe and welcoming community where I can truly, fearlessly, be myself.
