Sonia’s Summer Internship Experience

I’ll have been a part of the Passion Impact’s VEP (Volunteer Event Program) for a year this fall. I heard about the program from my best friends last August and I didn’t know anything about it, but they sent me an instagram post about what VEP does, and I was totally and completely interested. Knowing a few people who were applying to the program, and hearing from others who were interns from that summer, while also learning about the advertisement committee, I felt excited to join the VEP and I saw an opportunity to use a passion of mine that I was so sure was unnecessary for a greater purpose.

I love art, but it was never something I thought I could pursue outside of distracted doodling in class or paintings for my room. Being an advertiser for Passion Impact gives me the opportunity to apply my artistic skills in a useful and productive way, which influences others and promotes the goals of my team. I also have been able to see my innovative spirit being used outside of canva projects, and been able to take from hard skills that I have learned, along with the soft skills and the mindsets I have that make me so passionate. I realized that I’m interested in art because I have the ability to think in a more visual, out of the box way, and to apply myself and focus on something until it’s exactly how I want it.

I am so grateful to be given the chance to work at something, apply myself to something, and grow with others who are also growing around me. I have discovered so much about myself, and been able to harness my growth and passions into creating civic engagement opportunities and working as a team. This Summer I have attended a bunch of fascinating workshops, completely encompassed myself in a book, and made some really good new friends.
